A RETIRED Andover woman has decided to turn her recovery from a broken foot into a fundraising opportunity and is asking businesses in the area to volunteer their steps for her to climb.
Manuela Wahnon, aged 63, from Rack Close, Andover broke her foot and while in plaster fell over, injuring her other foot and leaving her housebound and in a wheelchair.
While housebound she was visited by members of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, a Catholic parish-based charity focusing on the socially excluded in local communities.
She now proposes to do a 1,000 steps challenge before 28 September in as many premises as she can to raise money for the society.
Manuela said: "The Saint Vincent de Paul Society has been going strong for 175 years and does good work. It visits those that are sick and infirm in their homes, whether they are of the Catholic faith or not.
"I'm combining regaining my own strength and flexibility in both my feet and legs, with showing my appreciation to the member of the society by raising funds for them."
So far her steps have included those at St Mary's Church, Reel Cinema, HSA buildings and the multi-storey car park at the Chantry Centre.
She has raised in excess of £300 and is hoping that more buildings will open their doors to her and sponsor her.
If anyone wants to take part and letting Manuela continue her challenge in their building could they please contact St John the Baptist Church on 01264 352829.
