LUDGERSHALL residents joined forces with staff from Sarsen Housing Association and Kennet District Council to tidy up litter in their neighbourhood.

More than 30 people turned up to 'Tidy Friday', a litter- busting initiative organised by Sarsen and the council.

The association has come under fire in the past from local district councillor Ken Beard who notably threatened to mow the street of weeds at Perham Crescent.

The latest clean up covered Coronation Road, Linden Close, Wood Park, Challis Court and Beard Court.

In two hours the litter- busters filled eight large bin liners with plastic bottles, cans, sweet wrappers, crisp packets and other rubbish.

Annette Holdsworth, Sar-sen's community development advisor, said: "In a recent survey, residents told us that litter was a big problem in Ludgershall. They are sick to the back teeth of seeing rubbish lying around and were keen to do something about it.

" Litter picking with friends and family can be fun and satisfying, and it helps highlight the problem.

"We hope events like these will encourage other people to keep their neighbourhood clean and tidy."

Tidy Friday' is part of a national Keep Britain Tidy' campaign to encourage communities throughout England to clean up their local area together.
