HUNDREDS turned out to watch the adrenaline-fuelled mayhem as soap box racers battled for supremacy over land and water.
The charity derby saw teams of five at the helm of purpose-built amphibious catamarans speeding down Hamble High Street into the water, where they had to start furiously paddling to the other side before a desperate sprint to the finish line.
The perilous event is made more difficult as children are allowed to pelt contestants with water balloons.
The Hamble Week community group arranged the event to raise money for local charities.
More soap box races will be taking place tonight.
