Legal challenge to travellers camp

LEGAL steps are being taken to move on a group of travellers who set up camp in Winchester.

Police said around nine caravans and two vehicles were spotted outside an empty warehouse at an industrial estate in Chilcomb Lane.

They added that landowners had started the eviction process after the travellers arrived on Monday, June 29.

Police said they were monitoring the site, but there were no reports of any disturbances.

Under this government the laws are so restrictive it almost gives travellers a free hand to go wherever they like and cause as much damage and disturbance as possible. They intimidate local residents by trespassing on their property yet the police stick their heads in the sand and do nothing about it.

It's the Government laws from 1994 that have caused these problems, by stopping people camping on Common land. The Gypsy community is the most misunderstood ethnic group in this country, take the time to understand there distinctive culture the world would be a happier and fairer place.

yeah they are are'nt they??? You have got to work for the council or someone Mr PC.

gypsy's don't exist anymore, all we see is the conmen in transits using the land they tresspass on as a free dump.

the government increased tax on waste tipping so the pikeys go round undercutting the waste companies and just dump it on the land they park on untill they cannot move and then move on to another site.

read the echo today and another pensioner has been coaught out by two irishmen who ogffered to fix the guttering for £15 and then took £1300?

Travellers are comnmen, violent and disgusting. we all know this, sadly the councils just bend over backwards for this worst minority and the police just let travellers get away with everything.

Gypsy Romany families have a strict code of living and always worked for their food, their caravans were beautifully kept. but travellers are another story. I would call them the 'drop out's' in society so they band together and do not make for a very happy co-habitation. They play hell with others that are attempting to make a reasonable life. They work at clearing gardens and old cars then dumping the lot at their sites. They were known to attack those that enter their patch for an overnight stay. Over the years they have been protected and supported by 'live and let live' solicitors and barristers. It can be a very costly thing for householders to take them to task. Laws have been made to protect them.

if these people can prove they are genuine Roma people they need to start acting like it.
