AN armed gang is tonight being hunted following a robbery at a jewellers in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
Police were called to Benzie, in the High Street, at 3.15pm after the men brandishing a gun smashed the front windows before threatening staff.
The Daily Echo understands no customers were inside at the time, but the street was busy with people.
It's not yet known how the gang managed to flee from the scene or whether a getaway car was used.
Police have closed off part of the road while enquiries get underway tonight. They have confirmed no shots were fired and nobody has suffered injuries in the robbery.
A number of witnesses are currently being interviewed by police who are also appealing for other people with information to come forward.
The jewellers is one of the oldest shops on the high street, having opened in 1862.
Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 045 4545.
