SOUTHAMPTON Football Club's proposed takeover by a Swiss group is edging closer to being finished - but other bidders are still talking to the administrator.
A deal is now close to being completed but other bidders still believe they are in with a chance if anything should change.
The Daily Echo understands the Swiss buyers are on the verge of rescuing the St Mary’s club.
The remaining couple of glitches were ironed out this morning, but the deal is not yet completed and no money has been paid - and other bidders are still negotiating.
The Swiss - believed to be related to Swiss billionaires Willi and Isolde Liebherr - are very much in pole position however, although they are not yet certain of tying up the deal.
The Daily Echo contacted administrator Mark Fry and, although he would not confirm nor deny the story, he did say he was confident of a deal being concluded shortly.
Saints’ parent company was placed in administration 97 days ago and the road to getting a takeover of the football club to completion has been a longer and bumpier one than anyone could have predicted back on April 2.
But it seems the saga is finally going to come to an end with the promise of a bright new future for the club.
It has also been a long road for the Swiss, who first thought they were going to get to exclusivity to do a deal on May 29 only for Pinnacle to snatch the 21 days window from under their noses.
However, after that deal failed to go through, and with the Matt Le Tissier-backed Pinnacle group eventually withdrawing, the Swiss came back to the table and were one of few parties left interested in buying the club - as exclusively revealed in the Daily Echo.
They were being chased by, among others, a worldwide financial group who remained confident of tying up a deal for most of yesterday only for that to start to wane in the afternoon, seemingly as the Swiss were getting nearer and nearer to their expected completion.
The other bids on the table were the one from Gillico, which never got too far, and another British-based bid of which very little is known.
However, the Swiss, whichever part of the Liebherr empire they may originate from, and the substantial backing they have, seems set to win the day.
It looks likely they will accept the Football League’s ten point deduction and attempt to move on in an amicable fashion.
Saints fans will also finally be able to start contemplating their League One fixture lists after worrying for so long that their club might not make the start of the season, Fry having stated before that it could go out of business if no buyer was found quickly.
It is understood the Swiss have drawn up plans to try and hit the ground running.
Much time has already been wasted in the build up to the season and as a result Dave McGoldrick and Andrew Surman have been sold.
But excited supporters will await news over whether this latest development means that goalkeeper Kelvin Davis will remain at St Mary’s.
One of the o t h e r announcements they will be keenly waiting – assuming the deal goes through – is the price of season tickets which the club have not been able to release due to their administration.

If the Swissare truly serious bidders with a plan then it's up to Barclays and Norwich Union now. I checked back to the original story on April 2nd - Norwich Union are owed £24million and Barclays Bank £4million, and there are many other smaller creditors ... If the Swiss bid satisfies those two then there will be sunshine over St Marys .... if they don't offer enough, or the Swiss don't come up with a business plan that satisfies them over a reasonable period then it's curtains. I reckon Barclays and NU will see sense. They will get a lot less if the club is liquidated. Fingers crossed !! We need a bank and insurance company to say YES !

They've been there in dealing for 9 days.. most of the problem is signing off all the creditors.. lots of em they all have to sign off. The FL has to do it's due diligence too. It is very exciting and should mark a new beginning for Saints. Given a moderate budget who do you reckon Saints could get... pure spec but any ideas to kill time until the news comes through?

Sounds like great news if the Swiss deal does happen today. It would certainly guarantee the safety and future of the club. I feel our club would be run in a similar way to QPR where there are rich owners but they do not through lots of money at it on players. I think it is going to be a shrewd slow buiiding process. If we return to the Premiership I think it is going to be nearer 10 years than 5 from where we are right now. But from where we are now I would take that.

I reckon with a couple of players this year to inspire the young lads they'll get to the play offs.
We just need to nail every chance and take every game from the very start of the season.. we can't afford lapses, excuses or lack of effort. We especially need to go in with the belief that we can nail anyone in L1.
Mark Wotte knows it.. you can feel it in his words movements and staying power.
If we are close to half way up the league by Christmas I reckon we'll romp into the play offs and we'll go all the way if we do.

It is important when in Admin that certain bills are paid e.g. Tax Office and Player Wages etc.
While we were in Admin 2 important dates occurred that could have meant we started the season on more than -10 points.
On the first PG put up money to satify those bills although the rumours now are that they were still trying to "commit their backers" to the deal.
On the second, players were sold to obtain the money needed to pay those bills.
My concern is that the Swiss were at the "table" both times and didn't seem to be concerned that the Football Club could be hit with more points if the bills are not paid, why ?
Do you know what their plans are for the Football Club ?
How much money are they going to put into the First Team?
For me the decision about who is going to be our next Manager will indicate their direction for the club, if they stay with the clueless parks league standard cheap option from last year then I will be concerned.

I am sure it is good news if the Swiss complete their takeover today but can we please have some realism about next season. We will need an absolute minimum of 50 points to avoid religation which means we will have to win 60 points altogether. That is the equivalent of winning 15 games and drawing 15 games out of 46 games. Whilst this is perfectly possible all that will do is avoid religation. Anything achieved better than that will be a bonus. Lets hope that the Swiss take over is completed and the Wotte/Svenson management team remain in place and we have a stable club again. Good luck to all those involved.

I think that if we had kept up the anti-Lowe protests long enough he would have sold the club as a going concern without us going into administration COYR
I disagree with your comments about the stay away fans causing the club to go into administration. Arguable the administration might have arrived slightly earlier because attendances were down but ultimately, administration was an inevitability regardless whether those extra 4000 fans would have turned up or not, it was just a matter of time
That said, if I agreed with your comments that the stay away fans caused the administration, which I don't, then in the same vain you, along with any other fans who believe the same, must thank the stay away fans in a few hours when Saints are taken over by a billionaire owner as a result of the administration process.
If you believe that all the pain of administration was not worth the end result of a new billionaire owner, and you would rather have watched Saints in Division 1 under the stewardship of Rupert Lowe, as the club continued to struggle financially, then all I can say is, we have completely opposing views. I am willing to suffer a 10 point deduction for a clean start on a financially stable footing.
To be honest, I couldn't care less if the new owners have billions or millions, the most important thing for me is that the club is run with some regard for the fans again. This was not happening under Lowe. He was treating us fans like idiots. If it turns out that these Swiss guys are no better than Lowe, well, we stay away again and keep doing the same until we get an owner that treats the fans with some respect. After all, the fans are the club. Owners, managers, players all come and go, the fans are the only constant at a football club. Without us there is no club. But I can't see there being any problems, any potential owner knows they need the fans on board for a club and their investment to be success. There are very few who are as arrogant as Lowe to realise this.
Still, to backtrack a bit, billions sounds a lot better than millions!

The Swiss are paying good money to have the say in what goes on and it's important to the club and the fan base for us to get behind their decisions. It would seem that I am getting the same treatment as the Echo, because they are way behind on this story - not that that is unusual.

He apologised for expressing that it would be straight away but they are getting Season Tickets sorted so that they can announce it to the Fans at the same time. I have been told that the prices for ST next year will be offered at around the £250-£325 pricing and that existing holders for the last 5years will get a 15% discount and half price away shirt. But once this goes through today we can all forget about the also-rans. COYR COYR COYRWith regard to the PG; rules exist at the FL about going into Admin and ALSO COMING OUT of it.

From the link i sent.
Richard Fry was the executive at the Canary Wharf branch of Barclays Bank mainly responsible for first cutting the Southampton overdraft from £5m to £4m and then bouncing cheques worth just £6,000 when it was breached - sending Southampton's holding company spiralling into administration in April.
The official departure of Fry from Barclays to join Begbies Traynor as a partner in their London division was announced on their website last week, heralding his expertise as a turnaround case manager whose specialties included football clubs.
Strangely, any mention of Fry's arrival has now been removed from the company's website, although he was in work there yesterday - but wouldn't comment on his move - referring all questions, via his secretary, to administrator Mark Fry.
Mark Fry (no relation) - who has been leading the Begbies Traynor recovery programme at Southampton - has received huge criticism for giving preference to the Matthew Le Tissier-led Pinnacle Consortium, whose bid has collapsed after a critical three weeks of wasted time that has put the club's future at serious risk.

cannot believe there are people on here who are still being negative! Come on, prepare yourself for utter relief! Also, agree with a previous post from tford1, that people shouldn't get too carried away about transfers, there is alot to be done in very little time before the season starts. I imagine that very little will be happening this side of the season, just try and keep the players we have left and try and get a couple of free's in. BUT... I imagine that if this was to happen, then there will be people on here moaning, because they will completely forget that these people were the ones who saved us. But hey, at least it's all looking rosey and that we have buyers with potential money behind them (not meaning the billions reported) that will keep us safe and sound and least, and if they throw money at us, im sure we will all gladly accept it! Come on you saints, I look forward to a good old battling season in League One, and hope that we can put a good fight towards the play-offs, like leeds done. Up the saints!

Which Liebherr do you think it is?
FAMILY BIO: After Hans Liebherr's daughter and four sons had finished their education, they all started working as full-time executives at their father's business. The oldest son, Hans, Jr., studied engineering and economics. Willi Liebherr became a mechanical engineer, while his younger brother Markus studied engineering with an agricultural focus. Hubert, the youngest of the Liebherr brothers, became a construction engineer, and their sister Isolde studied business administration and became responsible for the hotels, and the other Liebherr siblings had management positions in production or marketing. However, around 1990, Hubert Liebherr gave his share in the family business back to his father.
When company founder Hans Liebherr died in 1993, it was time for the second Liebherr generation to take over management. Hans, Jr. took over responsibility for the crane and concrete mixing business, Willi for earth moving equipment, and Isolde for the refrigerator production and hotels. Markus Liebherr, however, had changed his life plans and gave most of his shares in the company back to his brothers and sister. Hans, Jr., Willi, and Isolde meet every other week to discuss the basic decisions concerning investment, product development, and finances.
Willi was named the Liebherr group's chairman and Isolde became vice-chairman. Some observers interpreted this as a sign that one of Willi's six sons and daughters might follow their father in running the company.
I think 'other life plans' Markus...

Markus Liebherrr facts: Younger brother Markus studied engineering with an agricultural focus. In the early 1970s, father Hans Liebherr moved from Germany to Switzerland in order to avoid hefty German inheritance tax. Then Hans Liebherr transferred stock ownership to his children. The company was split in two parts: a German holding company and another holding company based in Switzerland. Hans, Jr., Markus, and Hubert Liebherr received equal shares in the German holding company. Willi and Isolde Liebherr were co-owners of the Swiss holding company. Markus Liebherr, however, had changed his life plans and gave most of his shares in the company back to his brothers and sister.
