Swiss on verge of formal takeover announcement

The final bits of paperwork for the Swiss takeover of Saints are set to be signed tomorrow morning The final bits of paperwork for the Swiss takeover of Saints are set to be signed tomorrow morning

Saints’ takeover is on the verge of completion.

The official announcement of the Swiss buyout of the club was expected to come this afternoon but a few unforeseen hitches involving third parties pushed things outside of banking hours and has meant a delay until tomorrow.

A source close to the deal told the Daily Echo tonight: "We’re as close as we can be without it being officially signed off."

Administrator Mark Fry is expected to be at the lawyers of Begbies Traynor tomorrow morning to finalise the last remaining pieces of paperwork.

Assuming there are no last minute delays again, an official announcement should be made by lunchtime.

The money behind the deal is believed to be from a relative of Swiss billionaires Willi and Isolde Liebherr but at this stage there are no plans for the new owner to appear at a press conference tomorrow.

I have been trying to not jump ahead and celebrate too early until we know what the Swiss are about, but I am just too exhausted by it all to keep a level head. I just hope there are no more hitches - I can't take any more of this and we have so little time left just to get a squad together that can compete in this league. There is still an awful lot to do, but lets just hope that the bottom has been reached and we are now on the way up. I don't mind how long it takes - I just want a feel good factor around St Marys once more - its been missing for far too long. COYR

I dont really care if they are billionaires or not. How much they invest in saints doesn't matter as long as they clear the debt attendance should make us more than competitive in terms of wages.

Big money transfers are not what is needed at this stage. The correct free transfers (experienced players) should bolster a promising youth set up. I really feel that Wotte can strike the balance given the chance.

Now is a new dawn, reason to be cheerful at last.

Although im as chuffed as anyone about this deal, I find it a bit strange that someone with the cautious, deliberate business record of the Liebherrs would want to invest in the crazy world of English football.

Im not suggesting 'Our Marcus' :) is going to throw silly money at the club or that he'l treat it as a toy. But I think it may become quite personal to him/them.

And as the club is only really a viable profit maker when floating mid table in the Prem. I think in terms of investment we can be fairly certain of a bright few years to come!

Probably not as much as we would like:

When company founder Hans Liebherr died in 1993, at age 78, his industrial enterprise generated roughly $2.5 billion in sales annually. Now it was time for the second Liebherr generation to take over management of the family enterprise. Hans, Jr. took over responsibility for the crane and concrete mixing business, Willi for earth moving equipment, and Isolde for the refrigerator production and hotels. Markus Liebherr, however, had changed his life plans and gave most of his shares in the company back to his brothers and sister.

As I understand it it is Markus Liebherr who will be buying Saints.

He owns a group of companies called the "Mali Group", having left the Leibherr group of companies a while ago.

He's funding the takeover with his own personal money. Hence Saints will NOT be owned by Mali Group nor Leibherr group but by Markus himself.

Assuming that this takeover goes ahead, maybe Markus should be given the freedom of the City?

Despite all the the rich list paper numbers pulled out of thin air, there's very few individuals in the world who could generate 2 billion liquid. And that bracket wont include your sinister Russians and what not. What matters to the banks is the back up of your potential assets. There's no suggestion that Marcus Liebherr was cut off from access to his familys wealth, just that he decided to follow another path. Maybe what we can draw from that is that we wont get silly money investment, but if things did take a downturn we would'nt go under either.

He'll say, "Are you married?", We'll say, "No man
But you can do the job when you're in town"

Later on, we'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid, the plans that we've made

Oh, I'm walking, oh, I'm walking

Anyone wanna take a punt on the boardroom line-up? Who would you put in?

"Leibherr was on the board of Leibherr Holdings until 2007. He has been running his own group of companies, the Mali Group, since 1994.

BBC Radio Solent understands that Leibherr will be funding the takeover privately, not through his companies. He is expected to have finalised his boardroom line-up at St Mary's by August."

Just been reading about the five different areas of business on his groups website (via google translate) and I have no doubt he is a very wealthy man.

Should remember 'Rich Lists' are made up of peoples assets like companies/property not how much they have in the bank.

Peter Jones of Dragons Den is worth around £300-400 Million yet has stated he only has around £10 Million in the bank.

It has been stated Markus is buying the club with is own money, around £12.5 Million, spare change to Markus Leibherr!

Markus was in Southampton a year ago and someone spoke to him about the club's peril.

He watched a game, and a soft spot began developing for the Saints.

(Some might say it was in his head!)

When the Sh1t hit the fan he became aware of the clubs problems and looked at making a bid

And here we are today!

Expect him to take a back seat - expect to see Matty and a few more old boys, a few very shrewd signings and also Wotte to be given a fair chance.

Also it is rumoured that the Nazi's deposited much gold there in WW2. Apart from that I seem to have heard that the takeover will happen tomorrow, last week, and every day this week. I'm not a Saints fan but I live in Soton and I am thrilled that Saints didn't fold. So much was lost from the city when they dropped from the prem. I went to a couple of games last season (my team played here in particular mentioning no names because I don't want to antagonise) and I was mortified to see the ground half empty. I know you guys have been thru the mill but go and show your team that they still mean everything to you and fill St Marys. COYR

Before the announcements, before the budget's in cement and before transfers are named..

How many from the district are going to heed this and not let it happen again.

Buy the gear, buy the tickets, be a fan and yell for the club loud and proud.

I'm getting the new kit asap.. Last time I came over I couldn't get in the Dell - sold out. I'll plan better next time and will still quietly hope to struggle to get a ticket... cos that means you're bots are the seats.

Good on You Harry...cheers

I heard that Kelvin was holding off a couple of days because the deal was close and if it was done in the next few days he'd stay... Fingers crossed

All I can say, is that after so amny years of watching everyone else get bought and sold, watching our boys do it tough, not having the funds to compete in the transfer market and then seeing what Poopert did to the club that I love, This new is just SO GOOD!
I just hope there's enough cash behind Mr Liebherr to make us what we deserve to be. A top flight club with European and title aspirations.

Markus was in Southampton a year ago and someone spoke to him about the club's peril. He watched a game, and a soft spot began developing for the Saints. (Some might say it was in his head!) When the Sh1t hit the fan he became aware of the clubs problems and looked at making a bid And here we are today! Expect him to take a back seat - expect to see Matty and a few more old boys, a few very shrewd signings and also Wotte to be given a fair chance.
Not sure if I believe this, although that may have something to do with the fact it comes from someone whose calls themself after an anagram of 'in satan'.

Oh sh1t s/w hope-fail!

Would those 8 Pompey fans in Norway be all glory hubting Norwegians who never have been to Pmouth? I have tones of Liverpool supporters around my part of Oslo(Vålerenga). Can't stand them!

Did anybody see the daily mail today? The Banker who put the Administrator into Saints now works for them.
Saw the article but not sure of its point. They seemed to be suggesting that the FL were uneasy about it, but it's none of their business. I reckon the Mail were just filling out some column inches.

Good to have a job away from the real world where you can charge by the hour, not have to provide a competitive quote, extend the chargeable hours by "excluding" certain bidders from carrying out due diligence for 3 weeks and even receive some praise in these columns for doing a good job.

As near as a licence to print money as you can get.
