Can you help at town's BigFest?

ANDOVER Live’s next free community event is the BigFest taking place in Vigo Road Park on Saturday August 15 and the call is going out for volunteers to help out during the day.

A team of volunteers is needed to undertake four-hour shifts throughout the day, anytime from 10am to 9pm.

Volunteers get to enjoy all the activities going on in the park as well as undertaking tasks such as organising queues for the various activities, manning the information stand, working backstage and undertaking visitor satisfaction surveys, in fact anything that will help make the day go smoothly.

On the day, the park will be packed with fun workshops, displays and performancees which fuse sport, physical activity and the arts.

The main stage will operate from 12pm to 9pm featuring a rolling programme of local musicians including Great Walls, Funkline, Uncle Tom’s Cobbleys, Lex Mead, Talicza Stevens and the winner of That’s Chantry Centretainment all introduced by Andover Sound’s Steve Randall.

Set on the Vigo Road acre will be the Sports Village where almost 40 exhibition stands will be set up by local club experts offering information, demonstrations and plenty of have-a-go opportunities.

The starburst marquee will be the venue for everyone to drop in to make Olympic flags and banners, felt footy strips, carnival wind catchers and Splat Splat Art.

And following a week of activity in the park the Cirque de Normandy Big Top will be the place to go for circus workshops, sports and arts demonstrations and a unique martial arts and street dance performance.

Also based in the park will be the unique Huge Jart area – a chance for everyone to contribute to Andover’s latest art installation. Visitors will be entertained by stilt walkers, and can get active on the climbing wall, space hopper football and the bungee trampoline.

If you think you might like to become involved as a volunteer for this event then please contact Heather Whittam on 01264 368814 or email hwhittam@testvalley.gov.uk A full briefing will be organised prior to the event and lunch vouchers will be provided.
