Students in field protest at Brookfield School, Sarisbury Green

A GROUP of Hampshire students staged a short protest against changes to their tutor system.

Pupils at Brookfield Community School in Fareham took to the school field yesterday morning to show their opposition to plans that could see their tutor group system transformed.

As students walked to their first lesson of the day, some decided to stand on the school field for a short while, before heading to lessons as normal.

The school will soon be starting a one year consultation on plans to improve tutoring in 2010. The process will begin next week with assemblies with the students and meetings with parents to outline these plans.

Deputy headteacher Ian Gates said: “Some students, on hearing the plans today, walked onto the school field at the start of period one to register their concerns but, having done so, immediately made their way to their lesson.

“We are welcoming the ideas and views that students have and will be speaking to students and their parents next week.”

After a sound thrashing the pupils all agreed the changes were a very good idea indeed.

Sounds like a really poor protest if you ask me! They can't have been too commited to the cause!

The reporter and editor responsible for this story are the ones who need a thrashing. What change to the tutor system has the students all stirred up? Kind of an important point of the story to leave out, come on guys, I don't want to be standing out here forever waiting for you to fix it!

Ill do it for them. The change in question is that there will be 5 kids from year 11 in each year 10 class as I understand and the kids were (for some reason) protesting against this.

One of the teachers questioned why one of the kids was protesting and the kid said "I dunno" so I think it was more sheep mentality started by a few who were wearing blinkers to the idea without seeing the pro's to it.

The entire school is just one big joke, and starts right from the top. Even the teachers are unhappy about the headteacher.
