AN elderly woman had to be cut from the wreckage after a two car crash blocked part of a main road through a Hampshire village today.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Botley Road. North Baddesley, at about 1.35 pm.

One lane was blocked after the collision involving a Volvo estate car and a Chevrolet Metize.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue crews used cutting equipment to free an elderly woman trapped in one of the cars.

The road was closed and traffic diversions set up during the rescue operation and while the wreckage was being cleared from the road.

Two people were taken to hospital but the extent of the injuries are not known.
