A RURAL site close to Owslebury near Winchester should not be used for storing construction equipment, say planners.

The yard in Thompsons Lane is currently being used by Schofield Groundworks Limited.

The firm has submitted a retrospective planning application, which will be decided by Hampshire County Council later this summer.

However, Winchester City Council has already viewed the plans, and said if the decision was down to them, it would be refused.

City council officers, using delegated powers, said it was wrong to put such an operation in the countryside.
