Salute our heroes as Tigers go on parade

SOUTHAMPTON and Romsey were today giving a heroes’ welcome to Hampshire’s returning troops.

Up to 300 men from the 1st Battalion, The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, were marching through the streets in a day of homecoming freedom parades.

It is the first time the soldiers – nicknamed the Tigers – have paraded on home soil following gruelling tours of Afghanistan and Iraq.

My daughter is one of the school children chosen to march behind the soldiers. So proud! I think the crowd will be enormous so I hope I'll get to see her!

I am married to one of these guys on the parade and it means so much to the soldiers to know that regardless of whether people agree to the politics of them being in Afghan, that the public support them 100%. They have had really tough times, especailly being away over Xmas, and their families have had huge amounts of worry and stress over the last 7 months that they have been away. So thank you to every one that made the effort to support them. Sadly most of the married soldiers on the parade have their familes back in germany so they cannot see these parades and it means alot to the families to know they are supported too.
