TWO Hampshire footballers are alleged to have been involved in a fracas in a hotel in Portugal.
Portsmouth's David Nugent and Marc Wilson were seen fighting by team mates in the Villa Hotel, Guimares, following the sides 4-0 hammering to Benfica in a pre-season friendly.
The incident happened at 5am on Sunday. It is believed both players had been drinking.
In a statement, Portsmouth Football Club said: "David Nugent and Marc Wilson have both been disciplined for a breach of club discipline while on the club's recent trip to Portugal.
"The matter has been dealt with internally and there will be no further comment from the club."
The incident comes as the Fratton Park club admitted that it may have to sell even more players as the takeover by Sulaiman al-Fahim drags on.
The businessman has said he fully intends to complete the deal.

I do laugh at the legalaties and rear end covering excuses when going to print. 1st paragraph says allegedly yet later there is a press release from a Portsmouth spokesperson.

WRT the original headline "Hampshire Footballers" .... They have a handful of players from around the UK, otherwise they are Nigerian, Senegalese, Algerian, South African, Greek and French. The headline does an injustice to Hampshire's Footballers. When our players were being sentenced for stealing mobiles and handbags, or drink driving, they were never referred to as Hampshire footballers, always Southampton players. Is the reporter a smelly skate?

What's the odds on this double? Saints to go up and Portsmiff to go down?

Why are they "Hampshire Footballers" ?? Come on Echo, do some accurate reporting for once, they should be described as "Skate **** Footballers"
