Portsmouth's David Nugent and Marc Wilson disciplined after fight

TWO Hampshire footballers are alleged to have been involved in a fracas in a hotel in Portugal.

Portsmouth's David Nugent and Marc Wilson were seen fighting by team mates in the Villa Hotel, Guimares, following the sides 4-0 hammering to Benfica in a pre-season friendly.

The incident happened at 5am on Sunday. It is believed both players had been drinking.

In a statement, Portsmouth Football Club said: "David Nugent and Marc Wilson have both been disciplined for a breach of club discipline while on the club's recent trip to Portugal.

"The matter has been dealt with internally and there will be no further comment from the club."

The incident comes as the Fratton Park club admitted that it may have to sell even more players as the takeover by Sulaiman al-Fahim drags on.

The businessman has said he fully intends to complete the deal.

Let's hope Pompey players carry on battering each other, thus ensuring they get relegated even quicker!

What's the odds on this double?
Saints to go up and Portsmiff to go down?

Pompey bottom by Xmas.

These guys are an excellent bet for relegation even before the middle eastern business links dry up...which they undoubtedly will.

Why are they "Hampshire Footballers" ??

Come on Echo, do some accurate reporting for once, they should be described as "Skate **** Footballers"

There is an element of deja-vu when looking at Pompey's predicament. It's very similiar to the year Saints got relegated. Players getting sold off, infighting going on in the club. Everyone blaming someone else for the clubs precarious position.

The first premiership club to go into administration is a real posibility....oh well we told them to enjoy it while it lasted!! COYR. :)

I do laugh at the legalaties and rear end covering excuses when going to print.

1st paragraph says allegedly yet later there is a press release from a Portsmouth spokesperson.

The statement doesn't say they were fightning though, does it?

"Breach of discipline" could mean staying up too late.

from day one they will be in bottom 3 and are odds on to be relegated, ha ha he he. Thankyou Redkrapp for throwing money at players and then fooking off when the dosh ran out, he's doing the same at spurs and wanted to do it here, thats all he's about. I don't think we'll play pompey again, they'll get relegated this season and we'll stay in div 1, the following season they'll be relegated again and we'll get promotion, end of!!

A couple of weeks ago it looked pretty glum for the saints but now its looking pretty **** good from where i'm sitting ha ha ha ha

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Cherries and the Saints moving forwards and upwards whilst seeing Portsmouth tumbling back down to the 4th Division or below.

Their unbelievable arrogance during Saints troubles is coming back to haunt them.

Schadenfreude sold be available on the National Health!

How's this for an SW. burn-long. Should have added 'In Hell'

Considering other on line publications have printed it being a late night brawl, why are the Echo so reserved?

Other papers say "alleged" too - both the Mirror and the Mail said it about this story today, that I've read.

Why not ask the Echo reporter directly by email rather than clogging up the comments section?

WRT the original headline "Hampshire Footballers" ....

They have a handful of players from around the UK, otherwise they are Nigerian, Senegalese, Algerian, South African, Greek and French. The headline does an injustice to Hampshire's Footballers.

When our players were being sentenced for stealing mobiles and handbags, or drink driving, they were never referred to as Hampshire footballers, always Southampton players.

Is the reporter a smelly skate?

Seeing as he writes in the Pink about being a Saints fan, I doubt it.

Actually, I've just noticed the story has two headlines:

Portsmouth's David Nugent and Marc Wilson disciplined after fight

and

Hampshire footballers in late night fight

As well as having a huge picture of the Pompey badge.

Isn't that the echo quite blatantly saying it's Portsmouth players?

Saints are about 10-1 to get promoted, so the double would be about 10-1.

This does ring the memories of our declining days, thinkgs are looking rather bleak, got to be realistic I think Pompey may have more chance of going down than we have of getting up first time of asking this season however I think we will meet for sure the season following next.I hope they do not perish as Saints fans generate alot of passion from the dislike of the Pomp and have the drive to once again bbe the top ranked team in the south, with no Pomp we have no competition. I for one love the local derbys and the feeling of getting one over on them!so I am enjoying there srtuggle but lets be real and hope they steady out in the end!

If only Saints' players had shown a bit more fight last season, perhaps relegation could have been avoided!

Owners in turmoil, players fighting, players being sold in quite scary proportions, administration, its own owner wanting out of the club, fans resulting to making jibes at theyre rivals about theyre relegation despite theyre rivals being owned by the 5th richest man in england at this time, and ignoring the fact that there club is going into meltdown. I think we should remember Portsmouth, and have a minutes silence for theyre downfall, and to honour the great club that is PORTSMOUTH, to burn theyre club flag, burn theyre team shirts, and burn anything else with the Portsmouth logo, and watch with glee as the stadium is turned into prime real estate, probably by al fahim (the irony of that), And to honour the long term memory of such a glorious team, a new brand of bog roll, with portsmouth logo's from all the years, being sold in a tesco store near you!, seeming as theyre club is dead, lets at least build a retail empire, hell, we could sell portsmouth shirts with a free petrol can in the new shopping center they will build on top of the stadium! these sorts of things are made for dragons den!
