Mandy Yip allowed her Southampton home to be used as a brothel

A MOTHER of two made hundreds of pounds by allowing a friend to use a house she had leased as a brothel.

Mandy Yip, 44, was approached by the woman called Amy who told her she wanted to use the premises as a massage parlour.

But Southampton Crown Court heard that Yip – who promoted the business with adverts in the local press – also knew that it was being used for full sex prostitution.

Prosecutor Carl Anderson said police received tip-offs from the public about men visiting the premises in Kingston Road at all hours, day and night. The first time they raided the property, no one was prosecuted. Despite Yip being told by the landlord it had to stop, the brothel continued to run.

Police later kept watch on the property and took statements from customers before raiding it again.

Yip, of Park Road, Southampton, admitted assisting in the management of the brothel.

Mr Anderson described her involvement as “minimal” and the prosecution accepted that at the time she leased it, she was unaware of Amy’s intent.

In her basis of plea, she however admitted she had benefited by £800 to £1,000 from rent and placing the adverts but she did not have any direct dealings with the prostitutes.

Yip, who was of previous good character, was ordered to do 100 hours community service and pay £500 costs.
