CASTLEDOWN Radio has continued to broadcast on its FM frequency after volunteers stepped in to man the airwaves when the Tidworth Development Trust folded with the loss of 16 jobs on 14 August.

Four people who worked at the community based station lost their jobs but Baz Reilly has now been employed by Wellington Academy as a teacher of media and will maintain a role at the station, which provides useful experience for the students, Ludgershall Town Council heard.

Radio representative John Winterton told the council that the station needed to renew several licences in November if it was going to continue to broadcast and this would mean raising funding to cover the fees.

Councillors decided to remit the plea for funds to its finance and policy committee for consideration. Wiltshire Fire and Rescue has already agreed some financial support.
