A MAN has been charged with a string of offences after a road accident which killed a Southampton student.

Lukasz Banasik, 22, was flown back from his native Poland yesterday.

The charges follow a two year long investigation by officers from the Roads Policing Unit into the death of Gavin Hustler-Brown.

On arrival at Biggin Hill, Banasik was arrested by officers from Hampshire Constabulary and transported into custody at Eastleigh police station.

Banasik has been charged with:
• Causing death by dangerous driving;
• Driving without due care and attention
• Failing to stop after a Road Traffic Incident
• Failure to report a Road Traffic Incident
• Driving without insurance
• Driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He will appear before Southampton Magistrates Court this morning.

Mr Hustler-Brown, a promising international-standard diver, died after being struck by a blue Vauxhall Astra as he walked near the Hobbit Pub, in Bevois Valley Road, Portswood on April 27, 2007.

Gavin, originally from Yorkshire, was a first year Criminology student at university in Southampton.

The car involved in the incident was later found abandoned in nearby Alma Road.
