POLICE today named the man killed in an accident on a Hampshire road.
Geoffrey Smith, 64, of Chapel Road, West End, Southampton, died after losing control of his Land Rover, which rolled over as he travelled along Bubb Lane in Hedge End yesterday.
A police spokesman said Mr Smith – a mechanic – was on his way to a pheasant shoot when the accident happened.
He was married with a grown-up son.
Bubb Lane and other roads in the area were closed for several hours while police carried out an investigation into the incident.
Road closures were in place for several hours around Bubb Lane, Botley Road and Hedge End Industrial Park.
Sergeant Gabe Snuggs, of Totton police station, said torrential rain, poor visibility, surface water and grease on the roads made driving conditions difficult.
Anyone who saw what happened is asked to call Sergeant Gabe Snuggs on 0845 045 4545.
