Safe stolen by burglars in Warsash

THIEVES stole a safe containing jewellery, gadgets and private documents in a smash and grab raid on a Hampshire home in broad daylight.

Thieves forced a conservatory, ripped down patio doors at the house in Brook Lane, Warsash.

The safe, pictured above, contained a string of pearls, a gold locket, Victorian heirlooms, a diamond ring and a shell bracelet. A black Ipod, a white Nintendo DS and a brain training game were also taken.

Police investigator Jane Dye said: “This incident occurred in daylight hours on a relatively busy road. We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen this large safe being put in a vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously.

“We would also like to hear from anyone offered any of these items for sale.”

The burglary took place between 1.30pm and 2.45pm on Thursday. Contact the Priority Crime Team at Gosport police station on 101.

Shame the brain training game wasn't used more - they might have figured that without securing the safe someone could carry it away as easily as it was carried in!

Yeah, I've never understood the point of having a safe if it isn't bolted to the wall or secured. All it does is consolidate all your valuables into one neat little box for the burglars to nick and use power tools to open later on. For a similar reason, I don't understand those who download all their music and films without physical copies. A small hard drive with thousands of songs and films is far easier to nick than an entire CD and DVD collection!

Agree - or even worse end up with armed thugs who force the householder to open the safe.

It's relatively easy to suss out expensive homes and not forgetting that someone installed it in the first place or maybe had a service call.

Maybe a good idea to have TWO safes- a decoy first choice containing a little booty but with the main one well hidden elsewhere?

Better still, put your old tat in the safe and hide your valuables in a sock!
I think the phrase is hidden in plain sight.

Yeah - right. Then the missus chucks a few grandsworth of banknotes into the washing machine!
