THIEVES stole a safe containing jewellery, gadgets and private documents in a smash and grab raid on a Hampshire home in broad daylight.

Thieves forced a conservatory, ripped down patio doors at the house in Brook Lane, Warsash.

The safe, pictured above, contained a string of pearls, a gold locket, Victorian heirlooms, a diamond ring and a shell bracelet. A black Ipod, a white Nintendo DS and a brain training game were also taken.

Police investigator Jane Dye said: “This incident occurred in daylight hours on a relatively busy road. We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen this large safe being put in a vehicle or anyone acting suspiciously.

“We would also like to hear from anyone offered any of these items for sale.”

The burglary took place between 1.30pm and 2.45pm on Thursday. Contact the Priority Crime Team at Gosport police station on 101.
