Drunken youths damage cars and gardens in vandalism spree

DRUNKEN yobs left a trail of damage in a Hampshire town.

They caused hundreds of pounds of damage during the vandalism spree across an area of Romsey.

The youths damaged cars, gardens and other property as they made their way along three streets in the town.

Police have now issued an appeal to help track the youngsters down.

A string of antisocial behaviour incidents happened in Woodley Lane, Woodley Close and Mercer Way.

Wing mirrors were snapped off a Vauxhall Corsa and a Vauxhall Antara parked at Woodley Lane while one youth climbed over the bonnet of one car and the roof of another.

Trees and shrubs were also pulled from the soil and thrown around a drive at another property in the same street while further along the road wall pillars were attacked and fence panels smashed.

Later on Saturday night, in nearby Mercer Way, the rear panel of a parked Saab car was also dented.

Police say gangs of youths were spotted drinking booze and acting in what they described as an “antisocial” manner in the children’s play area at Woodley Close at about 11.30pm.

A spokesman added: “If anyone knows who these youths were or knows anything about these incidents, they should get in touch with the police.”

They probably come from a "disadvantaged" background, so you cannot punish them.

That's a joke, although the courts may not see the sarcasm.

The funny thing is if anyone damaged their tonka toys or my little ponies they wouldn't like it and go crying to the police themselves.

Clearly none of them had a brain cell that night

Saturday night- fairly predictable that a police presence in the town would be needed. Where were they?

The area where this happened is a couple of miles from Romsey town centre. Woodley is full of large housing estates, so not the usual stomping ground of the local plod.

Romsey is not exactly the size of LA , there are only about 40-50 suspects that could have done this , why do the police need "help" !?!? just do your blinkin job ,,,, get on the beat , get the community to up your general awareness of this hamlet called romsey and then go and question the people you should already have on your suspect lists... this should ALREADY have been done , instead the police waste their time and our taxes on pipe-n-slippers issues that do not matter...

It can't help when the beat plod at Romsey see it as a retirement home / easy life and only go out for a casual wander when the weather is nice. I wonder if they work past 9pm?
The rest of the mess must be left to the 3 or so 999 emergency officers with backup coming from Andover (no joke); who without doubt must have no time and more important things than to deal with to speak to youths drinking in a park... according to the leaflet i got in the post, that is the exact kind of thing the neighbourhood beat team (or whatever they;re called) are supposed to deal with.
As I said, be interesting to find out if they are actually on duty at night when these 'antisocial' incidents tend to happen.
