Councillors arriving for today's meeting were greeted by angry demonstrators urging them to listen to their concerns.

The council's cabinet will later decide whether to appoint a private operator to manage the running of the authority's leisure centres, pools and sports pitches.

The city's flagship Quays complex is one of the facilities affected.

Campaigners have gathered more than 3,000 names on a petition, and fear the scheme will result in job losses and price hikes

A decision on the matter is expected to be made later this afternoon.
