THE final moments of a Hampshire teacher who died saving his bride on a honeymoon cruise are to be heard by a court.

Luke Day, pictured, and his wife Sophie were about to embark on a two-day voyage along the River Nile in Egypt when their boat was hit by a violent storm.

As reported in the Daily Echo, Sophie and two other tourists survived after Luke helped them to safety.

However, 31- year-old Luke, from Lymington, died after being trapped as the wooden sailing craft capsized at its moorings in Aswan.

Luke, a former Priestlands School pupil, was acting head of languages at 980-pupil Costessey High School in Norwich and ran the school’s French exchange programme.

He was due to return to the school after an extended honeymoon, which followed his marriage to Sophie in April.

Following the wedding the pair embarked on a 2,800-mile, five-month cycling tour around Europe before returning home for Christmas. On New Year’s Day they left again for Egypt.

An inquest into Luke’s death, on January 18, will take place at Southampton Coroner’s Court on Friday February 26.
