PEOPLE living in Fareham will not see a rise in their council tax after councillors voted in favour of a freeze.

But it will come at a price, with the cost of burying loved ones and hiring sports pitches set to rocket.

Last night councillors at Fareham B o r o u g h Council voted through the council tax status quo and a raft of increased charges for services.

It means people living in an average Band D property will pay £140.22 for the year from April 1.

Total bills will be over £ 1 , 0 0 0 w h e n Hampshire County Council, police and the fire service charges are added.

Residents will be hit in the pocket when it comes to burial charges, which will shoot up from £475 to £525, an increase of nearly ten per cent.

The cost of hiring rugby and hockey pitches will also see a ten per cent hike, with charges rising from £49.40 to £54.30.

Leader of the council Councillor Sean Woodward said: “This is a budget where Fareham has led by example, delivering on the priorities that our customers demand from us, recognising their needs and responding promptly and proactively.”
