Georgina Edmonds murder police prepare for 2,000 DNA tests

Georgina Edmonds Georgina Edmonds

POLICE will screen the DNA of almost 2,000 people in a bid to find the killer of a Hampshire grandmother, the Daily Echo can reveal.

Detectives will next week begin taking mouth swabs from dozens of men to compare against a DNA profile they believe belongs to the murderer of Georgina Edmonds.

The 77-year-old widow was tortured and bludgeoned to death in her cottage.

And I would like to expect that those found having no involvement in the case would have the DNA samples destroyed.
But will they?
Or is this just a ploy to build up a data base even further?
I would refuse to have mine taken without written response that it will be destroyed, or await my arrest for refusing, and a court test case.

Cue response from the ' those who have nothing to fear ....' brigade

Its not going to get a result anyway.

The person who did it will avoid it like the plague.

Thanks for the intro!
You're right though, much better to have murderers, rapists etc on the streets, than identified on a database and dealt with accordingly.
Re-cue the 'infringement of my human rights' bunch.

If everyone's DNA profile was on a national database this crime would have been solved 12 months ago. Come to think of it, if everyone's DNA profile was on that database, this crime and many others wouldn't have happened in the first place.

I see that Peter Sutcliffe has been in the news again this week, if only? ... ... ...

It would appear that way if you are a law abiding citizen, if you are a criminal, then you have many rights.

Even if they dont get to take a DNA sample from the actual killer , the police might get a DNA match from a member of his/her family ?
Then he/she can be traced from there .
I had my DNA taken a couple of years ago as a witness and chose NOT to have it removed from the data base . If my body is then found, i can be identified , i have nothing to fear and think this should be a personal choice .. ( not that i plan to die yet ! )
When my childen were born i would have liked the choice to have their DNA taken and stored on data ..I also would have had them chipped if i could , then they could have it removed when they turned 18 .. Imagine your child with a trackable chip ! Knowing if your child went missing , you could find them with the help of a computer .. Sounds sci-fish but im sure i saw a TV program on it ?

Were they really? This case has moved on - you clearly have not. Well done, EdfHd, for illustrating the limited intellectual capacity of you and your ilk. You make the average moron look bright.
