ANDOVER'S healthcare provider Simplyhealth has donated £50,000 to a children's medical research charity.
The donation to Sparks will enable the charity to continue its research into Meningococcal Septicaemia, otherwise known as blood poisoning which is the UK's most common infectious disease.
Sparks first began in 1960 with the mission to help all babies to be born healthy and stay healthy and be able to lead a normal life.
In 1991 Sparks became an independent charity funding ground breaking paediatric medicine in the UK to help all babies and children throughout the world.
Paul Connew, director of communications at Sparks, said: "We're absolutely delighted to receive this generous £50,000 donation from Simplyhealth.
"The research work Sparks is carrying out into developing a new therapeutic intervention for meningococcal septicaemia at the University of Sussex, will definitely benefit from this donation."
Terry Hardy, chairman of the charitable committee at Simplyhealth said: "Sparks do a fantastic job of helping children all over the UK affected by these diseases.
"Not many people are aware that blood poisoning can kill so many.
"It is a pleasure that we have been able to donate this amount to such a worthy cause."
