More stories about: Pompey
PORTSMOUTH Football Club have made 85 employees redundant.
However, the club's CEO, Peter Storrie, who reportedly earns £1.4m a year, remains at Fratton Park, but has taken a 40 per cent pay cut.
The redundancies have been made by administrator Andrew Andronikou, as part of desperate attempts to reign in costs at the beleaguered club.
Staff who remain at the club have agreed to work fewer hours.
However, the players have not had their pay cut, as they are protected by the PFA.
Mr Andronikou also claimed the players are the 'shop window' that can be used to sell the club, so making them redundant would harm the chances of finding a buyer.
See tomorrow's Daily Echo for the full story.

Pompey are bottom of the table even without the 9 point deduction thanks to the players, yet it is not their fault? They get paid huge sums plus all the hidden extras that are never talked about - they effectively get win bonusses whatever the score, they pick up quarter of a million just for signing on, ( "signing on fees" are incredible) - they get their contracts paid up when they quit the club early..... they get paid even when they are sent off or suspended - it goes on and on and gets worse and worse. Compare and contrast this feather duster attitude to the preened and pampered premiership players whose greed is destroying football, and the attitude of people to bank workers, many of whom earn less than £25k pa and are begrudged a 5% bonus for a mess they didn't even create. No sympathy there eh?

Saints fan here with a slightly different view to some of those above. I have absolutely no sympathy for the fans, the players and certainly not Avram Grant.
However, I do have massive sympathy for those who have lost their jobs, like I do anywhere in the UK when they lose their jobs. At the end of the day they are suffering and so will their families now.
All these players and grant make me sick. They keep saying what a great club it is and yet they do this? yes the players are protected by the PFA but that doesn't mean they can't give their money to those who have lost their jobs, or even back into the club. It is all voluntary!!
Peter Storrie should be ashamed. I don't think I would have the cheek to continue in my role, especially not on those wages. Has he not got enough money yet? No Chief Exec should have more money than the actual business especially when they are largely at fault!!!!

Administrator is a joker as well. How can he make all these guarantees like he can guarantee they'll start next season. To start, you must be able to show you can finish. Just wind them up and be done with it. Also, kick them out the FA Cup because the players who made any difference on Saturday shouldn't even be at the club!
Thats a joke about Chester, didn't they owe less than £30k? So unfair on them when the skates owe over £7 million. One club I don't have sympathy for is Stockport because I cannot see how it was fair to take points off them last season once they were safe.
i'll reserve my sympathy for Southend until we see what happens on the last day!!
Doesn't all of this remind you of how incredibly lucky we were to get such a great owner and chairman to save us???

When you lot are done ****, think on this:- The present path was initiated 6 years ago, when a certain London based jockey went off the rails. Since then, the movement of funds has been cleverly and slowly gathering momentum, in a northerly direction. When Fred Marsh QC was asked to comment on the impending scenario in 2008, his reply had more inevitability than Nostradamus - "when the sun sets over the cliff, all that may be left of the badger's lair is the crust that once had vegetable oil. We must learn from the issues, and I can only insist that these issues are not financial" Tell me again that this was not part of a plan by Eddie and Mark to see the decade through without jurisprudence.
