A SOUTHAMPTON man was jailed for 18 months for threatening a convenience store boss with a knife.
John Harrison, 26, became aggressive when he was confronted by staff amid suspicions that he had been shoplifting, a court heard.
Prosecutor Mary Aspinall-Miles told Southampton Crown Court that an off-duty doorman became so concerned about the row he stepped in to help but as Harrison was being removed from the Bedford Place shop, he suddenly pulled a Stanley knife from a pocket and waved it in manager Peter Lawson’s face.
After the door was closed, Harrison punched the glass twice and threw a brick at him, shattering the window.
He told police that he had taken up to a dozen valium tablets and couldn’t remember what had happened.
Harrison, of Sycamore Road, Southampton, admitted affray and possessing a bladed article at McColls.
Harrison also admitted an unrelated assault on his partner, who he kicked in the face and pushed to the ground.
