THEY may well have it – but they certainly were not keen on flaunting it.
It seems Southampton men are a little coy about showing off their assets, as only a handful mustered enough cheeky bravado to turn up to auditions to see if they could cut it as a butler – in the buff.
Despite organisers scouting the city’s streets and gyms for gorgeous geezers with the perfect mix of good looks and charisma, just four turned up to the auditions.
So it was left to the professionals to show the ladies how it was done at The Orange Rooms, Southampton, where the auditions were being held.
While cities such as Manchester and Leeds attract 40 men at a time, Southampton’s performance is only marginally better than that of Aberdeen, where no one bothered to show up at all.
However, Butlers in the Buff operations director Will Jones believes that the city’s women hold the key to unearthing the city’s male talent.
He said: “A lot of our best guys come through referrals from mothers, sisters, girlfriends and wives. All they need to do is contact us if they think the man in their life would make a good butler in the buff.”
As well as being handsome and hunky, wannabe butlers should have charisma, intelligence, diplomacy and just enough confidence to keep guest entertained at private functions.
Politics graduate Sam Thomson, 23, earns around £25 an hour as one of 200 Butlers in the Buff nationwide.
He attends functions across the south, including hen parties and corporate functions.
He said: “It adds another interesting dimension to my life.”
