Mark Collins heads for Sahara trek

A HAMPSHIRE radio DJ is leaving the Hampshire airwaves with a team of listeners to trek across the Sahara Desert to raise cash for disadvantaged children.

Mark Collins, morning presenter for Wave 105, will be joined by a team of walkers for the five-day trek to support the station’s Wave 105 Cash For Kids charity.

The team will fly out to Marrakesh on Thursday, head into the Sahara and cross the High Atlas Mountains before returning to the Moroccan city and then flying home.

Mark said: “I have recently increased my training programme to ensure I have a good level of general fitness as we will be walking for miles each day in the Sahara.

“My fitness regime included a run up the 570 steps of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower which really put me through my paces.”

All the money will go towards supporting children across the south who are under the age of 18 and financially, socially, emotionally or physically disadvantaged.
