FOR two decades he has completed marathons, triathlons, bike rides and hikes to raise more than £85,000 for charity.
Now, to celebrate, Bruce Elkins is planning to use pedal power to raise a further £20,000 cycling to Premiership rugby clubs around the country.
The CW Fellowes director plans to cover 685 miles during the eight-day event in aid of The Rose Road Association and Wessex Cancer Trust.
The 51-year-old will set off in September from Newcastle Falcons’ ground at Kingston Park, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and cycle south via all the Premiership Rugby clubs to finish at the Stoop, Twickenham, the home of Harlequins.
Assuming he has enough energy left, the final day will be a cycle home to his rugby club, Tottonians, based in Totton.
Bruce, who will be joined by a team of up to 12 cyclists and a support vehicle, said: “My mother was a Geordie from Newcastle and died of cancer in 1990, and that was what kicked off my sporting challenges.
“In 1991 I did a triathlon for the Wessex Cancer Trust and have continued ever since.
“But because of my rugby interest I thought this would be a different sort of challenge.”
