A NEGLECTED horse has been found abandoned in a Hampshire field.
The Bay Mare - believed to have been around 10 to 14 years old and about 15 hands high - was discovered in a Marchwood field on Saturday.
Due to the animal's poor state of health, the RSPCA took the decision to put the horse down.
Police are now attempting to trace the owner.
Police Equine Liaison Officer, PC Alison Tilbury said: “This horse was in a very distressed state and it was unable to stand. "There was significant evidence to show that the horse had been severely neglected and terminating its life was the only viable option open to us.
"It is now important that we trace the owner to inform them and if necessary, provide them with suitable advice. We would therefore urge them or anyone who knows who they might be, to contact us.”
Information can be given by phoning PC Tilbury at Hythe police station on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
