Wordsworth Infant School joins School Build Challenge

WE want to be able to enjoy our lovely grounds properly.

That is the message from children at Wordsworth Infant School in Southampton, who are the latest to apply for help through the Daily Echo’s £6,000 School Build Challenge.

The school is looking to build benches under the big willow tree in its playground to provide an area for outdoor learning and a relaxing area during playtime.

Wordsworth, in Stratton Road, Shirley, is the latest to apply for professional help from building firm Leadbitter, which has teamed up with the Daily Echo to make three fantastic outdoor projects become a reality“We’ve got some lovely grounds, but we haven’t really got anywhere for the children to sit and enjoy them,” said site manager Cliff Loch.

“It’s about making the most of what we’ve got.

“We’ve got a big willow tree that’s nice and provides shade in the summer and we want to extend the seating with some new benches for somewhere the children can do their outside work, have lunch or just sit and chat during break time.

“At the moment there’s only grass or concrete to sit on, and they would much rather have some seats.”

There are three prizes of works by Leadbitter staff up to the value of £3,000, £2,000 and £1,000 on offer through the challenge, for any outdoor project at an infant, junior or primary school in the Daily Echo circulation area.

All schools have to do is fill in the application form above before March 31, telling us, in no more than 200 words, why they deserve the money.

A panel of judges will whittle the entrants down to the best ten, and then it will be up to Daily Echo readers to decide which will win the prizes.
