Massive party planned for Southampton fans going to Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final

IT’S going to be the biggest party for Saints fans ever held.

A team of diehard Southampton fans have hired a huge 2,000 people capacity nightclub for a big party just metres from Wembley Stadium.

Organised by Saints Trust chairman Nick Illingsworth, the day’s entertainment at Silver Spoons will be compered by Damon Heritage, pictured in tears ahead of Saints FA Cup final trip in 2003.

Starting at 9am on Cup Final day there will be food available and children accompanied by an adult with a ticket can enter for free to add to the family atmosphere.

DJ and compere Damon, 49, from Eastleigh, said: “The guys wanted somebody well known to Saints fans so they got in contact with me after I was pictured crying through Abide with Me in 2003.

“We’ll have loads of Southampton and Saints songs on the day to build up the atmosphere before the game and hopefully the celebrations after.”

Organiser Nick Illingsworth came up with the idea after joining friends at Silver Spoons for the Everton vs Chelsea FA Cup final last year.

Nick said: “We just thought that to mark the day we wanted to do something special for the supporters, so that after making their way to Wembley they have somewhere to go before the game in the shadow of Wembley.

“It’s going to be fantastic, there’s been plenty of sleepless nights in the organising it but it’s getting to a stage now where we’re close to selling out and we’re really excited.”

Entry will not be available on the door, tickets cost £10 and can be purchased from coyr.co.uk.

Great idea, however, the venue need to get their act together on the day, have been there before and it wasn't worth the convenience that you thought the venue brings, appreciate trying to serve up to 2k presents a problem no matter what size the venue but after we win im sure none of us want to wait 1/2 hour for a beer every time, seek assurances that staffing levels will be consistant with the demand.
Green Man hotel for me, equally convenient, free of charge parking and better bar service

They need them, to hold all that cash that Saints fans are mistakenly giving them. Illingsworth is one of the guys behind the quick money "t"shirt sale. You know... the award winning "t" shirts, that won their award, by a few drunks voting for them in a pub! The ones that are being sold in direct competition to our club... the ones that line someone elses pocket, instead of the money going to make our club stronger. I really hope it falls flat on its face.

IanRRR you really are uptight! I've read that article by Nick and he's clearly having a laugh. I think it totally went over your head! And the T-shirts are really quite good. I brought mine in the King Alfred on Tuesday. Nice to see someone laying on something like this. Looking forward to a good old knees up at Silverspoons!

What article by Nick? I am glad you think the shirts are good, but the fact of the matter is that good old Nick is having a laugh at all true Saints fans, by selling goods in direct competition with our club. If he is laying on a good old knees up at a pub near Wembley, then fair play, as that does not compete with Saints, but the fact is, that he has seen a money making opportunity, which to me, shows him as a money grabber, not a real fan at all. We should be supporting our team, by buying official merchandise at the club shop, to make our great club even stronger, not lining the pocket of Mr Illingsworth!

The article where Nick joked about the t-shirts being award winning.
Selling a few t-shirts is more of a beer money exercise rather than a multi-national commercialism exercise. The t-shirts him and his mates are selling are nothing like the official club merchandise so i really don't think it's going to effect them whatsoever. At the end of the day certain people will stick to the stuff the club turn out what ever the quality or design, and certain people have the ability to think for themselves and choose to buy stuff they like rather than what they're told to buy.

You make it sound as if its him and a couple of mates, knocking out 30 or 40 shirts. A stall in the centre of Southampton is no beer money exercise, as they are clearly intent on shifting large numbers, probably several thousand. You are quite correct about us all having a free choice of what we buy, and I prefer to spend my money in the club shop, to benefit SFC, not line Mr Unofficial, Unelected, Unpopulars pocket! I have never heard a good word said for this bloke, and I am not giving him my money under any circumstances. But certain, free thinking people probably will..... Sorry to sound off, but I feel very strongly that this guy should not be profiting to the detriment of our great club! He is not doing this because he loves SFC, he is doing it to make money out of some poor suckers.
