Thieves caused about £1,000 of damage when they broke into St Mary’s Church in Vernham Dean to steal just a few pence.
A police spokesman said the break-in happened after morning service on Sunday but was not discovered until Tuesday morning.
He said: “A leaded window was smashed to gain entry and they cracked open the collection box which contained just a few pence.
