IT WAS a case of hair today gone tomorrow when Basingstoke Bison supporter Dale Hughes decided to raise money for charity.
The 39-year-old, from Scotney Road in Basingstoke, raised more than £500 for The ARK medical education facility at Basingstoke hospital by having his beard shaved off in the centre of the ice rink during Saturday's clash with Solihull Milton Keynes Kings.
"I had been getting a lot of stick from fellow supporters about the beard making me look old, so I said if they raised £200 I would shave it off," said Dale.
But he admitted to being alarmed when it came to the crunch and there was no professional barber to do the job.
"Instead of the clippers I had expected, they used a pair of scissors and three disposable razors!" he said.
"It feels very different and very cold, but I'm not allowed to grow it back until the end of the season."
