COUNCILLORS at Ashurst are continuing their battle against flooding in the village and they now have their own parish map of the drains, ditches and culverts that take the water away.

The map was unveiled at a meeting of Ashurst and Colbury Parish Council and Councillor Ian Oliver was praised by parish chairman Sally Arnold for his "wonderful work" in drawing it up.

Clerk David Hawkins explained later that the map gave a complete picture of how the water drained into the nearest river - the Bartley Water - and would be valuable in future in helping to solve any problems that occur.

He also pointed out that Cllr Oliver had not just drawn up the map, but had rolled up his sleeves and dug out some blockages to help with the smooth-running of the system.

Meanwhile, Cllr Oliver continued with his calls for people who had blocked ditches on properties along the side of the A35 through the village to clear those blockages. One stretch, he said, had three feet of water in it.
