A TEENAGER has been traumatised after being raped in the toilet of a Fareham-bound train.
The attacker, thought to be aged about 20, is then believed to have got off the train from Cardiff at Southampton.
CCTV footage from Southampton Central station is being studied by British Transport Police.
The attacker moved to sit beside her on the train before bursting in when she went to a toilet.
Police say the rape took place on Saturday between 3pm and 4pm. The girl was left traumatised. Detectives were due to interview her later today.
Det Insp Philip Kent, based at London Bridge, is leading the hunt and is liasing with colleagues in Southampton and also with Hampshire police.
He said: "During the journey the suspect was sitting, first of all, in the vicinity of the victim and then he moved to sit next to her. We know they were in conversation during the journey before the offence took place."
He is described as white, 5ft 7in to 5ft 8in, of muscular build, thinning brown or blond hair, green eyes, clean shaven and wearing a gold earring in one ear. He was dressed in a navy-blue Nike top, black jeans and brown Berghaus boots.
The attack happened on the 12.30pm service from Cardiff-train which terminated at Fareham and the victim and suspect were sitting in the second carriage from the front of the train on the right hand side.
