OFFICERS have launched an appeal after a man touched a nine-year-old boy in a Basingstoke underpass.

The suspicious incident happened at around 1.45pm on Saturday, May 1, as the youngster walked along the underpass in Gershwin Road, Brighton Hill that leads to the play park opposite Byrd Gardens.

A man, described as black and with a beard, touched the boy on the hips and then walked off.

Darrin Carey, of the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: "This was an unusual incident that happened in the middle of the day when other people would have been around.

"We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw a man acting suspiciously."
