Firesfighters second visit to Hardley factory
11:35am Friday 14th May 2010 in News
FIRE crews have been called to a Hampshire company for the second time in less than 24 hours.
They were summoned to the Charleston Industrial Estate in Hardley today after 1,500 litres of an inflammable liquid started leaking from a storage tank.
Crews from Beaulieu, Hardley, Hythe and the St Mary's station in Southampton are using foam to contain the leak.
Last night firefighters were called to the same company, Tradebe, to tackle a blaze in a silo filled with 50 tons of woodchippings, sawdust and tar.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the two incidents were unrelated.

The previous operators of the site went into liquidation last year. The comment on a notice board relating to environment professionals expressed the hope that the new owners (a Spanish company) would provide the investment that was needed to deal with the past history of problems on the site. It looks as if nothing has happened, except two more fires! The sad part is that the HSE did a major rework of the "Hazard Zone" last year and decided that it could be reduced.

As a matter of interest Hampshire Fire and Rescue make no mention of either incident on their Incident List, even though they mention a subsequent fire at a private house. Last time there was a fire at the incinerator it was also not shown on the Incident List. The excuse then was that it happened "out of hours"! Possibly quite innocent, ,but three times?
