Cyclist fights for life after accident closes B3347 near Ringwood
9:40am Sunday 6th June 2010 in News
By Corey Stephenson, Senior News and Video Reporter
A CYCLIST is today fighting for her life following a serious collision with a motorcyclist on a Hampshire road.
Police have closed the Ringwood to Christchurch B3347 road after the incident just before 3pm yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the scene after the woman, aged in her thirties, was in collision with the male motorcyclist aged in his forties.
Police say the woman suffered “life-threatening injuries” and the motorcyclist suffered “serious” injuries in the collision and both are now being treated in hospital.
The road has now been shut between Anna Lane and Dragon Lane near Ringwood and is likely to remain closed until after 6.30pm.
A police spokesman said officers still wanted to speak to witnesses who may have seen the collision.
“Police remain keen to speak to another witness who is believed to be a motorcyclist who was riding nearby at the time,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101 or 0845 045 4545 quoting Operation Buttonwood.

bicycles are so dangerous, especially on country roads
Either way lets hope they both recover and whomever is at fault is suitably dealt with!

Cycles, just as cars and motorcycles are not dangerous in themselves, neither are roads - it is the actions or inactions of it's user that cause us the problems.

Theres not enough info here to justify conjecture and there could be any number of reasons for the collision. . Cycles, just as cars and motorcycles are not dangerous in themselves, neither are roads - it is the actions or inactions of it's user that cause us the problems.

We have a good set of codes and laws which, if followed, would ensure that the only accidents were caused by mechanical failure or natures intervention (like a dog running out)

However I think some make too much of cycle facilities as if it will cure these situations. Theres lots of stats on the CTC website to show that its not that clear cut and a few more hazards seem to present themselves. Offroad facilities have the hazard of vehicles exiting driveways, or being secluded in the case of some of the more scenic routes....
.
....anyway I'm rambling now so I'll just add I hope both pull through ok.

Both parties (of which I am one) are a lot better and the headline-grabbing comments on the site fortunately prove to be unfounded. Can I please pass on my very best wishes and thoughts to the cyclist

actually i wasn't commenting on this accident (as anyone with a molecule of intelligence might gather) but making a general statement as i've been knocked off a cycle twice in the last year through no fault of my own and i think national statistics bear this out "cycling is dangerous"
.
In fact, if you had read your national stats properly you would have seen that there are almost as many accidents in city centres, and the "country" stats also include offroading on mountain bike routes and park riding accidents away from motorised traffic.
.
Cycling is not dangerous. As I said earlier it is our actions and the actions of others that make situations dangerous.
.
"Molecule of intelligence" LMAO!!! Its "modicum" aint it? Didnt think you could attribute intelligence in molecules. :-)
