A MOTORCYCLIST from Basingstoke has died after colliding with an ambulance on a north Hampshire road.

The crash took place just after 6pm on Tuesday evening, as the 52-year-old man rode a red Triumph Daytona southbound on the A3093 near Andover.

Police say the rider, who has not been named, crossed the central reservation of the dual carriageway and collided with an ambulance travelling in the opposite direction. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ambulance was responding to an emergency call at the time. The driver and his crewmate were not injured.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary closed a section of the A3093 near its junction with the A303 for four hours to investigate the cause of the crash. They believe the red motorcycle is likely to have been accompanied by a black motorcycle before the crash.
