A SNIPER-style air rifle has been stolen during a raid on a Hampshire shooting range.

Police are now urgently appealing for anyone who knows where the gun is to get in touch, fearing it could be "extremely dangerous in the wrong hands".

It was stolen along with two Dell laptops worth approximately £850, a projector worth £600-£700 and £1,000 in cash, when burglars forced their way into the water sports office at the Southampton University Boat Hard and Rifle Range in Mead Crescent, Swaythling.

Fifty pellets were taken with the air arms .22 black and woodstock air rifle, which was housed in a black case.

Detective Sergeant Will Whale, based at Southampton Central police station, said: "This 'sniper style' rifle could prove extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

"I want this gun back - it should not be on the streets."

Anyone with information should call PC Kate Andrews at Portswood police station on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
