Claudie Anglin behind bars over cruise ship plot
4:29pm Monday 9th August 2010 in News
By John Hoskins, Court Reporter
A MAN been jailed for over ten years for his part in a bid to smuggle 20 kilogrammes of cocaine into the UK from a cruise ship at Southampton.
Claudie Anglin, 28, was arrested at the port on 19 October 2008 as he prepared to meet four drug smugglers. They were each found with cocaine strapped to their bodies as they disembarked the cruise ship Arcadia which had sailed from the Caribbean.
The four couriers – Camille Dupee, Briony Dyce, Calvin Hylton and Natalie Quinn – were each jailed for ten years and six months after pleading guilty at Southampton Crown Court in December 2008.
They had picked up the cocaine – worth £1.7m – in St Lucia and were stopped in the Customs channels at Southampton Mayflower Cruise Terminal as they attempted to bring the drugs into the country.
Anglin, from Rubery, Birmingham, was waiting to meet the four when he was arrested in a car park opposite the Arcadia.
He was charged with drug smuggling on 3 July 2009 and admitted the offence before being sentenced at Southampton Crown Court today to ten years and six months.

Just jump straight on your bandwagon in your repeated attempts to promote your grubby little agenda.
You should try converting some of your angst, fear and paranoia to a positive kind of energy; you may actually benefit and feel a little happier.

What is important though, is where are they going to go? The Ministry of Justice has just announced a 20% cut in budgets. This is going to mean a severe cut in the number of Courts and Prisons. They could privatise prisons, but we all know that private prisons don’t work as they staff are paid peanuts and are scared of the prisoners. Besides, I personally disagree with a company making money from criminals (does this not fall under the “proceeds of crime”).
.
We are not going to have the courts to deal with the criminal cases and we are not going to have the prison places to house convicted criminals. Dangerous people are going to be left on the streets to re-offend.
.
The prisons are already overcrowded. A repeat of Strangeways is just around the corner, and with the prospect of these people being left out of prison, I can see there being a dramatic rise in crime and disorder on the streets.
.
This country is going to grind to a
shuddering holt.
.
Not to mention the fact that the staff working in the Ministry of Justice are all likely to go on strike........... it's all going to go pear shaped, and very, very soon!
