Student turns clothes into game character

FOR MOST teenagers a heap of old clothes would just be a mess on the bedroom floor.

But for student Kieran Gates, 17, pictured left, it was a work of art in the making and the chance to make his dreams come true.

Using Barton Peveril College floor as his canvas the talented art student transformed the pile of socks, T-shirts, bed sheets and towels into a giant picture of Sonic the Hedgehog and his arch nemesis Dr Robotnik from the Green Hill zone of the iconic game.

Taking videos and pictures of his creation in progress Kieran hopes to win the Sega competition to spend a week in Tokyo with the gaming team and almost £1,000 spending money.

To get the public involved in his yet to be named masterpiece the Chandler’s Ford art student made the collage from clothes donated by 50 people and made it 88 square foot so people couldn’t miss it.

Scores of passers by gathered to watch him complete the five-hour art attack marathon.

He said: “I am really pleased with how it turned out, it is just what I had in mind and the reaction so far has been brilliant.

“I have been a fan of Sonic all my life so this was a great chance to pay tribute to the character.”

Thousands of people across the UK and America have entered the Sonic the Hedgehog Four Birthday Competition and their pieces will be judged by a panel of experts with the best going up on the company website for gamers to vote on.
