WINDOWS in the new extension of the £7m flagship Winchester Discovery Centre are to be replaced – three years after it was built.

The Jewry Street library is still open but floor-to-ceiling windows fronting the main terrace and cafe have been boarded up.

A notice posted inside the building says although the glass is intact, there has been a “progressive failure” of the double glazing.

Condensation has got in between the layers of glass, resulting in heat loss.

The failed double glazing is to be replaced by the contractor responsible for the design and installation of the windows.

There will be no cost to Hampshire County Council or the taxpayer, says the notice.

Work to replace the windows is expected to take a month to complete.
