DOCTORS could do little to save the life of a Hampshire pensioner on her arrival at hospital, an inquest heard.
Hilda Andrews, 88, of The Harrage, Romsey, was taken from Southampton General Hospital to Romsey Hospital for rehabilitation after breaking a bone in a fall, but died less than a month later.
Giving evidence, Dr Julia Harris, emergency department consultant at Southampton General Hospital, who treated Mrs Andrews, said by the time the she saw the patient she had widespread peritonitis. Little could be done for Mrs Andrews other than to make her comfortable.
On Monday the inquest had heard how Mrs Andrews’ family had raised concerns about her treatment and the loss of some of her medical notes.
This had prompted a police investigation which found no evidence of wrongdoing by staff at Romsey Hospital.
