A FIRE broke out this morning at a laboratory on the Waterside sparking fears of a chemicals leak.
More than 25 firefighters were called to Marchwood Scientific Services on the Marchwood Industrial Park where flames and black smoke were seen coming from the building.
Members of the public reported hearing an explosion.
Part of the industrial park, which is off Normandy Way, was coned off as a precaution amid concerns over hazardous materials at the lab.
Crews from Redbridge, Totton, Hythe, Hardley, St Marys and Lyndhurst fire stations attended the fire, which was reported just after 7am.
Privately owned Marchwood Scientific Services carries out environmental monitoring for waste incineration plants. It also provides a food analysis service to detect pesticides and other pollutants.
