TWO Hampshire schools have received a prestigious recognition for involving parents in children’s learning.

Blackfield Primary and Fawley Infant schools have been awarded the Gold Standard of the Parental Engagement Quality Standard by the Schools Network.

The Waterside schools, which are led by the same head teacher, Claire Lowe, were commended for the way mothers, fathers and carers are asked for feedback on a wide range of subjects including activities, curriculum and school life.

Parents said they welcome that their views are taken into account, and reported positively on the welcoming atmosphere at the school and informative nature of newsletters.

Regional head of the Schools Network, Kirstie Andrew, who completed the assessment, said: “There is a passionate commitment by staff and governors to every child being given every opportunity to achieve to their very best at Blackfield Primary and Fawley Infant.

“Across the federation the ethos of learning and enjoyment of learning is deeply embedded.

“The key role parents play in this partnership is so integral to this ethos that parental engagement has become both an implicit and explicit feature of daily life in both schools.”
