AN investigation is underway after a fire at a Hampshire police station.
Shirley Police Station has been closed to the public after the first floor blaze yesterday.
No one was hurt in the fire, which started at 4.45pm, but police said some equipment and office furniture was damaged.
Fire crews from Redbridge and St Mary’s spent around an hour tackling the blaze.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said today that an investigation into the incident is “ongoing”.
Hampshire police said although it is “business as usual” at Shirley, with the same number of officers on duty, it has been closed to members of the public.
The force said the fire is being treated as non-suspicious.
Acting Inspector Ryan Bartlett said: “Unfortunately we will not be able to open the police station to the public as a result of the fire, so people coming to the station will be directed to Southampton Central. Alternatively, people can call 101 or 999 in an emergency to get help.
“However, this won’t affect policing in Shirley. We still have officers at the station, and for them it will be business as usual.”
