LAST night temperatures fell to their lowest level in February for more than 20 years.
Trevor Wheeler, who has been keeping records at Hurstbourne Tarrant for more than 40 years, says the temperature plummeted to a bone-chilling minimum of minus 9 degrees Celsius (15.8F) on Thursday night.
Trevor, whose recordings are used by the Met Office, said: “This was the lowest reached in a February night since 1991.
“The weather situation certainly isn’t going to help the water table, especially with the strong high pressure over Scandinavia and Russia.”
Hurstbourne Tarrant’s rural location situation, surrounded by steep hill hills, makes it something of a frost pocket so temperatures in Andover may have been a degree or so warmer.
Military recorders at Boscombe Down, just west of Andover, say the temperature was minus 7 degrees at 2am this morning while at Odiham, near Basingstoke, the temperature reached its minimum of minus 7.8 degrees C at 7am this morning, Forecasters are expecting the cold weather to continue into the weekend with the possibility that Andover will be hit by snow as slightly warmer and moister air moves east over the country.

Lived Here To (o) Long - You obviously haven't read the article. Please re-read slowly, paying close attention to the first paragraph where it says February not December. Then feel free to comment.
